Going to

Study this situation:                             Read in English only

Mr. Sambath and Mrs. Thida have married for 5 years. They work so hard to save some money. Having seen this situation, one of their friends asked, “Why are you working so hard?”  “We are going to buy a house.” they said.

            Get started:

Have they decided to buy a house before they tell their friend?
          តើពួកគាត់បានសម្រេចចិត្តទិញផ្ទះមុនពេលគាត់ប្រាប់មិត្តរបស់គាត់ឬ?
            `
(If you aren’t sure, look at the use below)

Here is the way we form sentences with ‘going to’.
          យើងបង្កើតប្រយោគជាមួយ ‘going to’ ដូចនេះ ៖

                        Positive:
                        Subject +am/is /are + going to+ bare infinitive + ...

លោក ដេវីដ នឹងធ្វើពិធីជប់លៀងមួយនៅថ្ងៃស្អែក។
·         Dany and I are going to marry soon.
ដានី និងខ្ញុំនឹងរៀបការឆាប់ៗនេះ។
·         I am going to meet my friends next week.
ខ្ញុំនឹងទៅជួបមិត្តរបស់ខ្ញុំនៅសប្ដាហ៍ក្រោយ។

Note1: with the verbs ‘come’ and ‘go’, it is possible to say:
          ជាមួយកិរិយាសព្ទ ‘come’ និង ‘go’ យើងអាចនិយាយដូចនេះបាន៖

·         I am going to go to the market.
·         She is going to come here this evening.

But we prefer to use the present continuous with these verbs to express the same action or situation.
ប៉ុន្តែ យើងច្រើនប្រើ the present continuousជាមួយកិរិយាសព្ទនេះដើម្បីបង្ហាញសកម្មភាព ឬស្ថានភាពដូចគ្នានេះ។

·         I am going to the market. (rather than I am going to go....)
·         She is coming here this evening. (rather than She is going to come ...)

Note2:  In an informal way, mainly in American English, ‘be going to’ is often pronounced as /’gənə/ and spelled as ‘gonna’.
ក្នុងការនិយាយក្រៅផ្លូវការដែលច្រើនប្រើក្នុងភាសាអង់គ្លេសបែបអាមេរិកកាំង ‘be going to’ ត្រូវបានអានថា /’gənə/ (‘ហ្គា.ន) ហើយសរសេរដូចនេះ ‘gonna’។

·         What are they gonna do this evening?
·         She is gonna cook curry.

Negative:
            Subject + am/is/are +NOT+ going to+ bare infinitive+...

·         He isn’t going to finish his work. (isn’t=is not)
គាត់នឹងមិនបញ្ចប់ការងាររបស់គាត់ទេ។

ពួកគេនឹងមិនបង្កើតប្រាក់ចំនេញបានច្រើនទេ។

ណារីនឹងមិនទៅបង្រៀនទេ។

Question:

·         Are you going to eat fish for dinner?
តើអ្នកនឹងហូបត្រីសម្រាប់អាហារពេលល្ងាចឬ?
