English Grammar: Use the present simple or present continuous tense?

បច្ចុប្បន្នកាលងាយ ឬបច្ចុប្ប្នន្នកាលកំពុងធ្វើ?

For most beginners of English may not know when the present simple or continuous is used,especially in the test.
In order to differentiate between the two, you must know the use of the present simple and present continuous tenses.  You must be aware of the time expressions which are commonly used in the present simple and continuous tenses as well​ in that they are key to help you decide what tense to use.

អ្នកសិក្សាភាសាអង់គ្លេសកម្រិតដំបូងជាច្រើនអាចមិនយល់ថា ពេលណាយើងប្រើ  the present simple ឬ present continuous tenses ជាពិសេសនៅពេលប្រលង។​ ដើម្បីញែកឪ្យឃើញភាពខុសគ្នារវាងកាលទាំងពី អ្នកត្រូវស្គាល់ការប្រើប្រាស់របស់កាលទាំងពីរ។​ អ្នកក៏ត្រូវស្គាល់ឃ្លាបញ្ជាក់ពេលវេលាដែលជាធម្មតាប្រើជាមួយ  the present simple និង​ the present continuous ផងដែរ ពីព្រោះឃ្លាទាំងនោះជាគន្លឹះដើម្បីជួយអ្នករើសកាលដែលត្រឹមត្រូវ។

The words in blue type give us an idea about what tense to use.

ពាក្យជាអក្សរពណ៌ខៀវប្រាប់យើង ថាយើងគួរប្រើកាលមួយណា។

Sometimes the difference depends on what we want to emphasize :

ពេលខ្លះភាពខុសគ្នា អាស្រ័យលើអ្វីដែលយើងចង់សង្កត់់ន័យ៖

• I normally study English at 7 = I start studying English at that time.
• I am normally studying English at 7 = I am already studying English at 7.

Let see what tense to use in these sentences.
ចូររើសជម្រើសដែលត្រឹមត្រូវ

1. Dave often visits/ is visiting his grandmother in the evening after work. But this week  he is busy so he can't come. He travels/ is travelling to Siem Reap province on a mission.

Answer:
The adverb of frequency "often" is used in the first sentence. It tells us that this action is a routine, so the present simple is used.In the next sentence, the time expression "this week"tells us that the action is temporary, so the present continuous is used.

ចម្លើយ៖​ គុណកិរិយាសព្ទ "often" ត្រូវបានប្រើក្នុងប្រយោគទីមួយ។ គុណកិរិយាសព្ទនេះប្រាប់យើងថាសកម្មភាពនេះជាសកម្មភាពកើតឡើងដដែលៗ ដូច្នេះយើងត្រូវប្រើ  the present simple។
ប្រយោគបន្ទាប់ ឃ្លាបញ្ជាក់ពេល "this week" បង្ហាញថា សកម្មភាពនេះជាសកម្មភាពបន្ដោះអាសន្ន(កំពុងកើតឡើងមួយរយៈ) ដូច្នេះ យើងត្រូវប្រើ  the present continuous tense។
